Julie sent me this picture of Moses who decorated a tiny little tree in the backyard because he was anxious to get into the Christmas Spirit.
This one is 100% US Grade AA Male! He loves to be outside in any kind of weather. His dad was a lot like that. I used to call Curt my little Daniel Boone!
I talked to Julie the other day when the cold was coming. She said she couldn't wrap her mind around what -11 degrees means. I said, "It means you'd better let Moses play outside today because tomorrow will be too cold". When I was in 4th Grade, I lived in Goose Bay, Labrador. A boy from my school was walking to church just a couple blocks away and he took his gloves off along the way to make a snowball. By the time he got to church, the tips of his fingers had frostbite. As I recall, he lost several of the ends of his fingers. The adults in my life used that story to scare the rest of us into taking the cold seriously. Guess it worked. I've always had a healthy respect for the cold.
A couple days after my conversation with Julie, Curt sent us the following email :
While I took an "I'm Sick!" nap this afternoon, Julie let Moses go out into the back yard to play (he begged and begged to play outside in the snow). She explained to him that today is much much colder than most days, so if his fingers or toes get cold he has to come in. He nodded his head and said Yes Mom like a pro.
At dinner Moses is eating his soup and Jules sees something on his tongue and asks, "Did you bite your tongue?" He said, No. She asked him if she could look at it and he sticks it out. She says, "Are you sure you didn't bite your tongue?" He says, No. It is burning. It is burning. Julie said, "Why is it burning?" Moses said, I tried eating an ice-cycle.
The little dude has two divots in his tongue and is missing skin on his lips. So, I don't know what ice-cycle he found out there today in the -11 (-23 wind chill) weather ... but the score is currently:
Ice Cycle: 1
Moses: 0
